Can Heat Pumps Save Energy and Money?
Questions from homeowners Silverstate’s Chandler air conditioning repair team are often
asked about heat pumps:
Can Heat Pumps save money?
The most advanced and highly efficient heating and cooling system available today is the Heat pump. Upgrade your old heating system to a new electric heat pump which is clean, quiet and comfortable to save your money on your energy bills.
What is a heat pump?
The Heat pump is a cooling and heating system to make your house warm in winter and cool in summer. It just works according to a basic principle of moving heat from one place to another.
Why are efficiency ratings important?
Cooling – Heat pumps are rated by a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and higher the SEER, the lesser the costs of cooling and more the efficiency of the cooling process.
Heating – Heat pumps are rated by Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) and higher the rating, greater the efficiency of the heating process.
Importance of professional help
Selection of a right sized pump for our specific needs is very important in the current scenario. If the heat pump selected is too large it affects humidity levels, comfort levels, running time and efficiency. A heat gain and heat loss calculation has to be done so as to choose the correct sized water pump for your house as it removes more humidity when it cools and saves a lot of energy on the whole. Call us now to evaluate right size of heat pump for you.
How does a heat pump operate?
- Cooling – In this cycle of cooling, heat is removed from inside of the house to outside of the house thereby cooling the house in a quicker fashion.
- Cooling Cycle – The indoor coil turns into the cooling coil and takes warm and moist indoor air and dehumidifies it to make your home comfortable. Refrigerant from the indoor unit extracts all the heat in the room and goes outdoor to release it into the atmosphere thereby cooling the house.
- Heating –The working rule here is the heat from the outside air is brought into the house for warming. There will be heat in the air even if its winter. Hence this process always works.
- Heating Cycle – Refrigerant in the outdoor unit absorbs the heat from the air and a compressor pumps the hot refrigerant to the indoor unit coil which uses the heat to heat the air inside and thereby making the house warmer during winter days.
Dual Fuel Heat Pump
Also Known as hybrid system, it combines a high efficiency electric heat pump with natural gas, propane or oil furnace. This dual heat pump can be added to the current system to boost its overall efficiency. In this system, the heat pump offers cooling and warming in summer and winter respectively.
